ethics-of-society
Right and Wrong is the starting point.
The right and wrong is actually based on what is that you are oriented to in bigger picture. You try to optimise your actions to reach or get what you want. That is your right.
Then there is the right and wrong of society. Humans as a group want to become more risk averse, live longer, travel better. It is a collection on individual consciousnesses.
So then two things exist – the ethics of you and the other. By other, here I mean group/society or human race.
Now as an individual, you can be in conflict with what the society wants.
This calls for a compromise and reconciliation between two directions - of yours and of others. It is not possible without a compromise. Why? It is like the particles inside a circle wants to travel in different directions but the circle as a whole wants to travel in one direction.
So if all individuals are all over the place in terms of direction as in Fig 1, the direction of whole circle becomes imbalanced and will lead to a collapsing situation. So all individual particles realizes that moving in one direction is the only way to ensure and improve their existence. So they start compromising in such a way that their collective force will take the overall circle in one direction.
Now this directional re orientation comes through compromise. But no one will fully compromise – because a full compromise will make that the person is giving up whatever made that person – which in flip means that there is no more meaning in existing as what you are not. So they compromise to some level.
Now let’s say some particles don’t want to compromise. Because all other particles are compromising and adds to the possibility of overall existence, this particle will have a difficult time existing amongst other particles. So it will be forced to compromise at some level or other particles will ensure that the misaligned particles stay inactive (systems like jail). Because it is their compromise which is making the existence of those misaligned particles also possible. So all compromising particles gain a group power larger than a single particle, which allows them to put in measures to make the misaligned ones inactive.
The most happy and content individuals will be the ones who find that sweet spot of compromise where they can contribute to the larger direction of circle with least giving up of themselves and also enough to co-exist among other particles.
Right or wrong is a direction. But the catch is that bigger circle should travel in one direction so that the co-existence at scale becomes possible and therefore it becomes the Nash equilibrium.
Now, some individuals really find the hack to really go deep on their individual directions even when ensuring the larger circle is not really against them. This means you take the benefit out of the circle for existence, but is really travelling in a different directions.
- These are particles moving outside the circle, but taking benefit of the circle.
- Making the ones around you believe that the direction of larger circle is wrong.
- Creating a sub-circle, whose net movement can still align with that of the bigger circle.
We will go deeper on all three soon. But the take away is, you have find the sweet spot between what you compromise to belong in the circle of human race/society/groups and individualism to belong you.
Because herein lies the answer to our big question - why people don’t go nuts like they should!
Please note that this is just a starting point to this theory. The more we start to dig on it only we will get to its nuances. Will dedicate a post later outside Nutty Series.
