Ignorance is often seen as a bad thing. We have always learned that it is the knowledge that liberates. Let’s challenge that notion. Ignorance is what have kept you happy and may be a better tool at keeping you happy than knowledge.
I send this below calvin snippet once to a friend once.
She replied: Definitely not by 29! (She was 29)
But she added “We should just remained kids in that blissful ignorance.”
Ignorance was a blessing when you were a kid. You were excited to play every evening. You were happy dancing to every other jingle which came on the TV. BLISSFUL IGNORANCE gave you a kind of peace.
You grew up. You know about money. You know about responsibilities. May be you enjoy life a little less now. Because you grew up. Which simply means you know a lot of things. Is it good or bad?
It starts with money and travel and as the knowledge expands throws you to a existential whirlwinds!
But you choose ignorance in the ways you don’t know.
You are not worried about climate change, because you don’t know it yet - you have heard about, you know some information. But you really know something when it hits you. It may not have hit you yet deep enough.
When information hits you, it turns knowledge. Knowledge is the information you feel.
You may not be worried about plastic. You may not be worried about air. Every calamity that hasn’t attacked you personally is giving you a blanket of blissful ignorance.
Information which you can ignore is not knowledge yet!
This is a bigger paradox than you think. Your whole life you will be entirely ignorant of at least five big things which have the potential to make you worried every day! Ignorance thus brings you a peace of mind.
What are the things you have been selectively ignorant. Do a revisit. Is there something which you should unveil and come out of ignorance? Or are there things you should silently look away to get back that blissful ignorance?
You don’t know most of what is going on. And that is not sad news. That is happy news! Nuts!
