Paaashyon (Passion)
Today let’s try to talk about passion. Because one of my biggest worry has always been how do someone find their passion.
The number of friends who have said me they don’t have any passion is countless. Wait, I don’t have countless friends. So may be a couple of them may have said. Anyways…
If you look at the word originates from Latin word “Passio” which means to suffer.
Can passion can be called as something you are ready to suffer for? Or is passion something that can overtake you and ride on its own that it pulls you through pain.
Let’s be very simple human beings and tell - Passion is something you feel excited for and enjoy while doing it. Let’s start…
Four steps to find your passion, which you can possibly turn to a career before you die:
- Expose - Expose yourself to a lot of things and lot of fields. You want to do some of what you see around. If you visit the Brazilian streets some years back, every other kid wanted to be a footballer. You need to give yourself material to inspire from.
Listen to people. Read about stuff. Widen your horizons. Travel around and visit places.
Switch the Sides - If something excites you and you feel like doing it again, there is the spark. Now you are gonna switch sides and try. If you like movies a lot, try making a short film. If you love reading a lot, try writing a story. You are trying to be in the creator side of things.
Try - You can try multiple things at same time. You can learn piano and also play football. Try a lot of them.
Learn vigorously - If you are trying you will hit challenges and road blocks. This will force you to learn. You will find the sources and learn before you try again. The more you learn the more you will like most of the things.
Now, TRY - LEARN - TRY - LEARN… becomes your loop for anything. If you are enjoying that loop, great, you have found your passion. That cycle is what I think of as passion.
Two observations you should ask: 1. Most of the times, you should be in play mode in your passion. It should feel like work to others but you are enjoying it and you are feeling it like a game you wanna play. 2. Are you inspired again despite your failed tries. Because that shows how much do you think it is worth it for you.
