wanted
#Nutty November 14
What is your ambition? Who do you want to become? What do you want to do with your life?
These questions would have come across your face at some point. Funny it is! Because all of these questions assume we have a real hold on our lives. Ha ha, as if we are all mini gods.
What do you want? The biggest thing I have realised is that the answer changes.
What you tell today doesn’t matter! What you said yesterday doesn’t matter! The answer changes. But there is a very beautiful way you can use these answers to know yourself.
This time let’s do this exercise in a weird way. We are going to split into different periods of life and observe.
What were your ambitions/want-to-dos when you were a kid? What are those now? What was this list in between?
MY LIST/
Things I was fascinated and wanted to do as a kid: Circus (Yes, I wanted to run a circus) Creating farm taking care of animals (A very big farm. I had a plan diagram drawn!) Creating Amusement park Making Movies Acting in Movies Doing a performance on stage Riding cycle to distance To be a scientist To be a pilot To swim in water
In between I wanted: Start Google School (A school where everything was free form and experimental and advanced) Be a cricketer Be a coach/sprots manager Be a coder and create threadly (threadly was an app like Reddit which I brainstormed and started working while in high school) Be a public speaker Be a priest/monk
Things I want to do now: Teach Write stuff Create movies Be a better person (No, I don’t want to be God. Like with anger – I realised the net returns of anger are always negative. So moving away from that is a better version for me.) Business (Because you are creating value in a tangible sense) Philanthropy Create a podcast discussing ideas To be a nomad and live in the van (So that no one ever questions my lack of responsibility)
It is a pretty weird list.
But every time I go through this list, I realise where I have always leaned to. What were the different versions of me and what each of those versions wanted.
“Who are you” is a trajectory of “what you want”!
I am looking forward to the next want-to-do things that come up. That excites me a lot. Because those are versions of me which I have not experienced yet!
Nutty Nuts!
